Fall is just around the corner - the industry's unofficial favourite season, and with its arrival comes so many ways to express yourself, reflect your mood and make your sartorial mark. Runways watched, magazines perused, websites searched and street style noted - all to bring you the top fashion trends for Fall-Winter 2024/2025. Here's the inspo for what we'll be wearing.
Be transparent
Lately fashion has left little to the imagination. The sheer-dress trend, while varying in levels of modesty, is inescapable, as barely concealed nipples, belly buttons, and thongs have graced every runway and red carpet from the Grammys to the Oscars.
BOHO CHIC
Free spirited, with a nomadic ‘70s vibe. The boho look is making a comeback with flowy dresses and psychedelic prints. This season’s boho looks are romantic with an edgy side.
BUTTONED UP
Whereas the bohemian look is far more casual and effortless, the absolute air of elegance and glamour that also dominated the A/W 2024 runways is significantly more intentional refined dressing. Think button, bows and pearls - rim and proper like a New York heiress in the 1950s and 60s.
Check yourself
This rebellious tartan fabric retains its protest aspect, serving as a throwback to the golden age of punk. Draped tartan fabrics create a comforting aesthetic in a timeless colour palette designed for everyday wear.
Double Denim
Circa 2001 when Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears wore matching double denim looks at the American Music Awards. This season is more of a Cowboy Carter era look. Jeans are truly the fashion piece that never gets old, just reinvented. Although the styles change they cycle repeatedly with a twist. This A/W it’s the Canadian tuxedo - Vogue says so!
extra wide
Wide legged pants are extra this season. While there were still plenty of pantsless looks on the runways for fall, many designers did focus on outfitting our lower halves with statement trousers and extra wide jeans with some serious volume.
FAUX FUR
And all kinds of copy cat fabrics from knitwear to yarn. As kind to the wardrobe, as they are to animal rights, these fauxs will keep us warm in a conscious way. Now is the time to go wild for voluminous, pettable outerwear made of faux fur, feathers, fabric, shearling or yarn. The bigger the better!
Liquid leather
From shirts and skirts to dresses and trousers to jackets and coats, leather dominated the A/W runways. Most looks featured a glossy finish, be it vinyl or simply leather. There was also a focus on colour, too—while black leather will never be "out", it seems that burgundy, blue, brown and green are very much "in".
Paint the town red
Red alert! Fashion paints the town red this winter. Whether festive or conservative, bright red or cherry cola - red and burgundy will dominate both everyday and evening wear silhouettes. From knitwear to satin to leather, everything is seeing red!
PUMPS
Get to the point - pumps are back! For Autumn 2024, it’s all about sleek pumps in vintage-inspired silhouettes. The perfect addition to a day-to-night wardrobe.
Slip (in to this) Dress
The slipdress has made its way back to the catwalk as a must-have basic that is dethroning the LBD. This season, make sure your slipdress is lacy, satin or sheer, aka lingerie inspired. Pair it with a tight-fitting, long sleeve shirt under or a leather jacket over to stay warm.
Stay Wild
For autumn/winter 2024, designers roared "Leopard print is back!" Animal prints add warmth and just the right amount of sensuality and confidence to any look. Instead of these bold runway looks, try wearing leopard as a neutral.
Wallpaper florals
Wallpaper and chintzy florals provided ample space for designers to experiment this season. Prints were vintage and burned-out or digitally warped.
